Karen Boyd
Volunteer Management & Events
Karen is a nonprofit professional with several years of experience across a number of sectors including insurance, trade associations, and educational non-profits. She is adept at attracting new business, improving retention, and managing client relations. Her background also includes program development, event planning, and volunteer management.
Prior to MInds, Karen served as Volunteer Coordinator for Mercy Education Project where she developed comprehensive programs to recruit, train, onboard, and grow a large volunteer base of tutors and mentors for both the after-school girls’ and adult education literacy programs. In addition to working one-on-one with hundreds of volunteers, She created meaningful volunteer projects for employer business groups that enabled her to implement skills based volunteer opportunities and enrich their volunteer experience.
Karen also handled volunteer recruitment for Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan as a Membership Specialist for five years. There, she managed hundreds of volunteers in five different territories and provided leadership training to ensure that students and adults were successful.
Additionally, Karen was a Manager of Development for industry trade associations for HIMSS and ODVA. She recruited corporate members, managed member relations, and planned industry conference events.
Karen’s career started at Lincoln National Life Insurance Company in various marketing and communication roles, where her inspiration for leadership in community service began.
Karen received her degree from Indiana University, Bloomington with a Bachelor of Science in Public Affairs.
